Wildlifer of the Year = Dr. Charles Harris (Idaho Department of
Fish & Game) accepted by Chuck's wife, Kathie McClannahan
Below is the letter from the awards committee
regarding Chuck's selection:
Idaho
Chapter of the Wildlife Society, 2008 Professional Wildlifer Award
The awards committee has selected the late
Chuck Harris to
receive the 2008 Idaho Chapter of the Wildlife Society Professional
Wildlifer
Award. As most Chapter members know,
Chuck was a dedicated wildlife professional, most recently serving as
the Idaho
Department of Fish and Game State Nongame Manager, whose life and
career were
cut short when he passed away last year.
Judging by the number of people from a broad spectrum within and
even
outside Idaho
who suggested that Chuck receive this award, it is clear that he
touched many
people and that his memory remains very much alive.
We feel that Chuck’s active commitment to
wildlife
biology
and conservation, his positive attitude, his interest in working
together with
other professionals, and in helping others succeed, exemplify the
characteristics of a successful professional wildlife biologist. To ensure that Chuck’s contributions to the
wildlife profession in Idaho, and to the Idaho Chapter of the Wildlife
Society,
which he served as president, are not forgotten, the awards committee
would also
like to recommend that starting in 2009, the Idaho Chapter of the
Wildlife
Society Professional Wildlifer Award be renamed the Charles E. Harris
Professional Wildlifer Award.
